Irish award-winners returning to Seahouses
A young and exciting Irish band, which was recently awarded ‘Best Live Performance’ at the Live Ireland Awards 2017, is set for a return visit to Seahouses.
Connla are a 5-piece of virtuoso traditional musicians, who met whilst studying at Ulster University. Their first full-length album ‘River Waiting’ set the critics talking seriously, and it went on to win Best Album of the Year at the Live Ireland Awards in 2016. A brand new album has just been released on both sides of the Atlantic, and is being similarly acclaimed. The music blends uilleann pipes, flute, whistles, guitar and percussion, and adds a sweet and powerful vocal to the mix too.
Over the past year, they have toured in the USA, and throughout Europe. The band ended 2017 on a high when Songlines magazine placed their ‘River Waiting’ CD in the Number 1 position of their Top Ten Essential Irish Albums – a list that contained many of the big names of the genre. When they played Glasgow’s Royal Concert Hall during Celtic Connections, The Scotsman awarded them a 5-star review.
Connla played here almost two years ago, and raised up a storm with an incredible and memorable live show. Their music showcases their quality and musical heritage superbly, and seeing them is live is a very exciting experience.
The concert is on Saturday April 14 at St Cuthbert’s House in Seahouses. Doors open 7pm. Entry is by ticket-only, £12.50 each, available by calling 01665 720456.
